Athletics

The City of Ocean Springs Parks and Recreation Department offers youth athletic programs in Basketball, Football, Volleyball yearly. We also offer non-traditional sports, that may change by the year, such as kickball, ultimate frisbee, or youth pickleball. Each program provides participants with challenging leisure experiences to improve physical fitness, encourage social interaction and stimulate the mind. It is our mission to provide exceptional community-based athletic programs for the youth of Ocean Springs by valuing integrity in our actions, providing quality service to all participants, and offering a safe and well-maintained environment where our customers can gather for a fun and enjoyable experience.

Game day schedules are dependent on the season's needs and may vary year to year. Teams play an average of 1 game per week, with an occasional 2 games per week. The youngest divisions will play in the earlier time slots, and the older divisions play in the later time slots.

  • Court sports and non-traditional sports are played Monday-Thursday at 6pm/ 7pm/ or 8pm, and Saturday mornings/ early afternoons as needed.
  • Football (flag and tackle) is played Tuesday/ Wednesday at 6pm/ 7pm/ 8pm, and Saturday mornings as needed.

Practice schedules are determined by the coach. Teams will practice for 1-3 weeks before games start. We are not able to accept practice availability at registration.

Age divisions

For Fall/ Spring sports, OSPR uses the Ocean Springs School District (OSSD) age control date, September 01 of the current academic year. Summer sports age control date will be the age as of when the season starts (example: Summer volleyball control date might be May 01)

OSPR does not currently require age verification to be submitted at registration (i.e. a birth certificate to be uploaded with registration.) If a player is questioned, OSPR reserves the right to hold the registration until the parent or guardian can provide age verification. Parents can play their child up a division by one year, with OSPR approval. Players are not allowed to register in a younger division.
