Mississippi Power Franchise Special City Election
Ocean Springs, MS – A special election for the Mississippi Power Franchise will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 from 7am to 7pm. Absentee ballots can be cast at City Hall until Monday, August 3, 2020 at 4:30pm. For your convenience City Hall will be open on Saturday, July 25, 2020 and Saturday August 1, 2020 from 8am to 12pm to absentee vote if you are unable to make it during the week.
As a reminder, due to this Special Election, the Regular August Board of Aldermen meeting has been moved to Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at 6pm at City Hall.
MS Power Franchise Information
-State law requires utilities to pay cities two percent of residential and commercial revenues generated in the City.
-For more than 50 years, Mississippi Power has been paying The City of Ocean Springs three percent of all revenues generated in our City due to our current franchise agreement. These funds help to provide essential programs and services within our City.
– The funding level will remain the same for the next 25 years.
-If voters decide to vote “NO”, the revenue will decrease to two percent and The City of Ocean Springs will have to make up the loss of revenue in our annual budget.
-Voting “YES” will allow the City of Ocean Springs to continue to receive three percent.
-Voting “YES” will not raise your rates in any way.
