Ocean Springs Announces Improved Pay Scale for Police Officers and Encourages Lateral Applicants
Ocean Springs, Mississippi – Our law enforcement officers protect and serve and help make Ocean Springs the best place to live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The City of Ocean Springs seeks to retain and recruit quality police officers to provide effective and reliable police services to our citizens and our visitors, to keep the community safe and secure, and to build and maintain strong relationships with the public.
In support of what OSPD officers do every day, we have built and approved a new pay structure for our municipal Police Officers, with entry-level pay of $18.00 per hour and lateral/certified pay from $18.00-23.49 per hour, in addition to our excellent benefits package.
ANNUAL PAY AND BENEFITS (based on 2,280 hours per year)
Entry Level Police Officer: $41,040, plus benefits
Certified Police Officer: $41,040-53,500, plus benefits
Full-time employees of the City of Ocean Springs, including Ocean Springs Police Department, are eligible for enrollment in medical, dental, vision, and life insurance benefit options. We also participate in the PERS (Public Employee Retirement System) pension plan.
We have limited openings now for the position of Police Officer. After Human Resources receives your application, they will email you details of the required physical and written civil service testing. Lateral applicants who are currently certified for the State of Mississippi may be exempt from the physical agility test, but still are required to complete the written test. NOTE: You must be 21 or older to become a Police Officer in Mississippi.
The scheduled dates for the 2021 Police Officer Physical Agility and Written Test are January 23, March 13, April 24, May 22, July 17, September 11, and October 23. Alternate test dates may be available for Lateral applicants.
