POLICE RECORDS OFFICE
The OSPD Records Office is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday, unless otherwise posted. We assist the public with obtaining copies of accident/crash reports, incident reports, local background checks, and fingerprinting, in addition to being the first point of contact for callers and visitors to the OSPD.
The Records Office accepts payments in EXACT CHANGE ONLY and CASH or MONEY ORDER ONLY. These payments are for Accident Reports, Fingerprint Cards, Local Background Checks, and other Records fees. We do not make change. We do not accept any bill higher than $20.00. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Accident/crash reports are available at a cost of $20.00 each when you request in person at the OSPD Records Office. They also are available online for a cost of $25.00 each, through the State of Mississippi eCrash portal. NOTE: Parking lot accidents are not on eCrash; they are available through our Records Office only, and the cost is $20.00 each.
Incident/crime reports are available on a case-by-case basis. The first copy of an incident report is free. Submit your request for these reports in person at the OSPD Records Office. Valid photo ID is required. Under no circumstances do we give out copies of reports that involve juveniles.
Local Background Checks (Ocean Springs Police Jurisdiction Only)
Residents of the City of Ocean Springs may obtain a personal, local background check through our Records Office at a cost of $15.00 each. This background check covers only on the requesting individual’s history within the jurisdiction of the Ocean Springs Police Department. You cannot obtain a background check on someone other than yourself.
NOTE: An Ocean Springs mailing address does not necessarily mean that you live within the city limits of Ocean Springs. Background checks are available only to residents with the city limits.
If you are unable to come to the OSPD in person, then complete this local background request form, have it notarized, and then submit it by mail, following all instructions carefully. NOTE: This form is ONLY for mail-in requests, as it requires notarization. In-person requests do not require notarization, but valid photo ID is required.
Beginning Monday, October 12, 2020, the Ocean Springs Police Department will do public fingerprinting (for employment, licensure, etc.) during the following hours:
Mondays – 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Tuesdays – 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Wednesdays – 09:00-11:00 a.m.
Thursdays – 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Fridays – 2:00-4:00 p.m.
These hours provide more staffing and give the flexibility of morning or afternoon options. Fingerprinting is still subject to appropriate personnel being available. A valid photo ID is required. The cost is $15.00 for the first card and $5.00 for each additional card for the same individual.
After Hours Beach Parking Permits
Parking on Front Beach Drive and East Beach Drive is restricted to the hours of 6:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. unless you have a Beach Parking Permit from the OSPD. Typically, these would be used for those who fish or crab in the late night or pre-dawn hours. There is no cost for these permits, and each permit is good for a single night/morning.
Emergency Contacts Registration for Local Businesses
The Ocean Springs Police Department appreciates local businesses. In the event of an emergency or problem with a business (such as burglary or alarm), it is helpful for us to have emergency contact information for that business on file. We have a form for business owners/managers to complete to provide us with this contact information. The forms can be picked up at the Police Department any time or you can complete and submit it online here. The information provided will be private and not shared with or sold to anyone.
