[ARCHIVED] City of Ocean Springs Raises Pay for Public Safety Officers

Ocean Springs Mississippi

Ocean Springs, MS – The Ocean Springs Board of Aldermen approved budget amendments to increase the salary scale and to give mid-year raises to sworn officers with the Ocean Springs Police Department and firefighters with the Ocean Springs Fire Department.

The budget amendment included an increase to starting pay for patrol officers from $41,900 to $45,700, with annual increases. The amendment also adjusted the pay scale for patrol officers, sergeants, lieutenants, and captains.

“Officers with 2 years’ experience can lateral transfer for $52,000 a year and have ample opportunities for overtime,” said Police Chief Mark Dunston. “The Ocean Springs Police Department and the City of Ocean Springs is a great place to work.  We work well with other departments and the community strongly supports our officers.”

“Public Safety is a crucial service that the city provides,” said Mayor Kenny Holloway. “We want to recruit and retain quality men and women in public safety, and we believe these competitive packages will allow us to do just that. The packages not only include an increase in salaries but our healthcare premiums for families continue to be one of the lowest on the Coast.”

The Ocean Springs Fire Department received department raises in February 2023.
