Ocean Springs, MS – The City of Ocean Springs Camp and Special Events Coordinator, April Chewning, has been appointed to the Mississippi Recreation and Parks Association Board (MRPA). Chewning will serve as a District Representative/Social Media Manager.
As an MRPA’s District Representative, Chewning will represent the interests of this district, the association, and the interests of all parks, recreation, and related professions.
“I am excited to serve on MRPA’s Board of Directors and represent the City of Ocean Springs,” said Chewning. “I look forward to making connections with Parks and Recreation employees across the state and bringing back ideas to better our community.”
Chewning works with children and young adults in her community coordinating summer camps, after-school care, and special events throughout the department. She earned her Childcare Directors Associates (CDA) in 2018 and started her journey with Parks and Recreation in 2019. However, she has been active in working with camps and programs since as early as 2009.
“The Board and I are always proud when our staff has a chance to serve on community and state boards,” said Mayor Kenny Holloway. “As they grow in professional development, it also enhances the work that they do for Ocean Springs.”
Chewning is the secretary for the Ocean Springs Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and Leadership team. Her term on MRPA will be one year.
